Automatic Lockers

Anyone run both an auto and a manual in the past? I'd be interested to know the preference. If the auto functions as it's supposed to, why go with a manual?

thanks,

Many of the auto lockers have some adverse characteristics on the road. In addition, an auto locker puts alot of trauma on the axle when it locks up, making it easier to do damage, especially with big tires. They are alot cheaper though, and they do work great offroad.

What size tires are you going with?

I'm gonna have 32's.

Why would auto lockers put any more stress on the axle than manual lockers and is it anything I need to worry about?

auto lockers tend to be a little less predicatable than a regular locker, when they unlock and then lock back up that puts shock load on the axle. dont worry about it though. the model 20 will handle 32's and a locker fine. a good upgrade for the model 20 is the one piece shaft conversion though. it takes it to close to the strength of a 44

Just put a tried and true Loc Rite in there. The only negative is that sometimes you get a little noise when cornering. You could probably even E-bay a used one for dirt cheap.
