Well i do have some modifications to my engineThe I6 doesn't like high RPM's in stock form, unlike the smaller 2.5L that likes to really wind up. I wouldn't run mine continuously at 4500 just because the redline is 6k.
Its just a few small ones but like free flow exhaust, cold air intake, and an unichip (which does help in power i must say)as in?
I have never looked at a tach on my manuals. I just feel it and shift. If it sounds like you need to shift, you probably do. This excludes high performance machines like race cars.
Ha your not telling me nothing 35's with 3.07, 5th is no longer thought ofRight, but I still need to know how much is too much. I'm down in third coming up some of the hills on my way to and from work. The 33's just bog me down, (havn't regeared my axles yet), so bad I'm holding up old ladies and Ice cream trucks. I have to keep the rev's up, even if it sounds like it need's to shift. 3rd is too low, 4th is too high, 5th is just a joke.
Although i havent tried or experimented on the I6 or 2.5L RPM thresholds, i would think that the PCM would have a REV limiter @ the red line indicated on the Tach. and for that matter, Tach or no tach, there would still be a Rev limiter. I've experimented on the 5.7 Hemi as it is worth doing so by reprogramming the Body country code to Germany. This has made the Vehicle think it's in Autobahn. cool huh?,To a certain point it was, until i got clocked by a state trooper on I-10 @ 98MPH. i was on a deceleration when he saw me, i was going 135MPH before that. he wrote the ticket for 79MPH on a 65MPH Speed limit. so , in conclusion, even with the German Country code, the Rev limiter is still kept @ the indicated Redline on the tach, but i never found the Governor on the Speed limit. Go figure. Is going to about 4500 RPM anywhere close to the danger zone on my I6, (i have a lead foot soo haha). I'm just wondering because the red is 6000 and I never go there, just curious question, and I've read that 4500 is where you get the most horses and torque
Haha same here, if i blow the I6 i have a 360 waiting and if i shatter the 35 i have an 8.8 ready to go hahaAnother problem I've got is the 190,000 miles on the I6. If I DO rev it to redline, I'm afraid I might break a ring on the carbon buildup. The guy that had it before me just lugged it up and down the road for 15 years. Screw it, if I blow it up, that's just an excuse to drop in an a 350. Problem solved.![]()
