Lift kit questions

Looking to add a small amount of spring under axle lift to replace my currently stock suspension '93 YJ. Don't need anything over 2" of lift, as I won't be going off-road too often... sometimes to the beach and some wooded areas in South Central PA. I just want a little bit of extra clearance without having to adjust the driveline components much, if at all.

Looking at Quadratec's inventory, I found a 1.5" leaf spring lift kit from SuperLift (Q-tec part# 16207.009). I was thinking of going with the SuperLift shocks and steering stabilizer to finish out the package (not included in the kit). It'd be in the neighborhood of $700 for all of that (w/ sales tax). Any thoughts on the matter? Suggestions? Good or bad idea? Are there better spring lift kit options for that height range? Going to make a purchase in the next 2-3 weeks and I'd appreciate the input of the forum community. Thanks!

I believe this is the lift twistedcopper has on his yj. A tad bit cheaper and it's complete shocks and everything needed but tools. Free shipping too.

You can add a 1"-2" body lift and accomplish the same thing, or install TJ fender flares and get the clearance needed. I've made my own add-a-leaf kits for a couple of YJ's from 2 front spring packs, gives 1.5" of lift without making the ride harsh, or changing anything else, if you're up to the work.

Yup, that's the suspension on my '91 YJ. Rides nice, flexes well.

No driveline issues at all

While all of the above suggestions will work I think a new set of springs is the best route, be it the kit you posted, the RE kit posted above, or any other decent name suspension.

yjdave & Bounty__Hunter - I thought about getting just a body lift, but the leaf springs appear to be the originals and are in dire need of replacement. Maybe a body lift somewhere down the road will be in order.

red93 - I was looking at that RE kit on Quadratec's site (part #16300.302) and that's definately on my consideration list. It'd be a little less than jeepinoutfitters.com with tax (I live in PA; Quadratec is in PA and close by... may be able to pick it up at their warehouse). The only thing that concerns me with the 2.5" kit is the possibility of having to get the SYE and CV driveshaft. An extra $500+ for those two items isn't in the budget. But, the RE 2.5" kit would be a bit less expensive than the SuperLift 1.5" kit and shocks. So many decisions!

TwistedCopper - Glad to hear you have no driveline issues with that RE kit. I've read very good things about Rubicon Express. I'd be more than willing to listen to any first-hand info you'd like to share about installing the kit and it's handling both on and off-road.

With 2.5 inches you shouldn't have any driveline issues and the one from jeepinoutfitters comes with a transfer case drop just in case. I personally am running the RE 4.5 extreme duty lift with a 4banger and have no vibration issues. When i installed mine taking all the old equipment off was the hard part(a sawzall comes in very handy), putting everything back together was a breeze.
