HELP. I have a 98 TJ every now and then while driving it loses all electrical power and the engine shut down. Few seconds later it'll start right back up. I've taken it in spend hundreds and still can't figure it out. Doesn't do it all the time. Been two years since it did it. This week it's done it three times. Anyone else the same problem or any ideas.

Same thing happened to my sons Dodge Ram 4x4. It was a corroded battery cable. It happened a few times, then it got to where the trans wouldn't shift right. A friend told me it was either the battery, bat cables or bad ground. Sure enough, cleaned the cables and it fixed it.

A standard trans should run until the alternator dies or the battery is drained, right. These problems with or without the headlights on. all the cables were cleaned or checked. I figured if hooking it up to the computer system didn't find the problem. Then something was shutting down intermitten.

Check and clean battery terminals. Clean both ends of all ground wires. get the battery load tested. Verify your alternator is putting out 14.4V when idleing. After this look for something shorting. Likely a power wire with no fuse.

I had the same similar problem a while back, It would run fine for a while then just shutdown even the gauges. All it would it do is turn over. There was a fuse under the dash called PDC Coils and was lose, put it back in good, and the problem went away. Hope this helps

Check the ignition switch wiring as well. Does the symptom occur when you play with the steering column tilt? or wiggle the wiring and see if it does the same.

Dude it's most likely a crank shaft position sensor right about the bell housing. My cherokee had the sam issue. Let me know what u think

check ground strap from back of engine to body . if badground you will lose power to dash & bodylights & computer.

I had the same problem with my 97, turned out to be a loose connector just above the driver's feet, behind the knee panel.
