Need Car Transported HELP!!

If any of you know someone that might be able to transport a car from Naples, FL to Nashville, TN, PLEASE let me know. I have a 75 Chevy Caprice Convt (454 not running at the moment -- i believe it a fuel pump issue) down there that I need brought here to Nashville, and I have no means to get it. U-Haul (and everyone else) says it is to big and heavy for their trailers. I contacted several transport companies and they all want 1100-1800 to do it. A local wrecker service said 2800. I'm just a workin man and don't have that kind of money. My mother is selling the house where it is at, making it imperative that I get it here. Any ideas or references would be VERRRRY welcome. Thanks

I had a friend that had to tow a car with a U Haul trailer. They wouldn't rent it to him for the car he wanted to tow due to its size also, so he changed his story and told them he decided to tow a VW bug instead. He got the trailer and lived to tell the story...

Looks like it would be around $600 using DAS basing it on mapquest's estimate of 866 ,iles from Naples to Nashville:

750 - 1000 miles:Estimated Rate $600

Still a lot of money but less than you've been quoted thus far.

Be wary of DAS...I used them to have a car transported from NJ to WV last year. They quoted me like $800, which was cheaper than everyone else. The car showed up with the wheel wells pushed in a bit (which, since all I was planning on doing to the car was racing it, so it wasnt that big of a deal), but the big problem was the driver of the transporter. I paid the $800 in advance. The driver showed up and told me I owed him something like $500. I told him I had already paid the amount in full. He insisted I pay him another $500. We argued for close to an hour, and I finally told him if he wanted another $500, he could just take the car with him (I had gotten it for free, all I had to pay for was the cost of getting it transported since it was without an engine at the time). He finally just left (and didn't take the car). And I've heard other people with similar stories, so beware...

I have a friend that had a CJ5 shipped through them from Ohio to Maryland with no problems. Hadn't heard the bad stories... they are recommended by eBay but maybe they are not such a good idea afterall :-|

Y'know, that's the problem with anything now though; one person can have the best experience in the world, the other can get totally shafted; you really never can tell...

Any vehicles my family has ever transported involved several days off work, and 2 people on a road trip, that, of course, does not help you because the vehicle is undriveable.

I used DAS for a CJ-5 from Georgia to Oregon, doorstep to doorstep, with no problems of any type as well (it was a Mother/Daughter driving team!) LBR

I'm going to give DAS a call Moday morning. I've asked around and they seem to be pretty reliable and honest. I know that since it is not in running condition, I will have to pay a little more, but it's worth it not having to all the hassle. As far as damage, it already needs some body work, so that's not a big deal either. Thanks for all the input!!!

DAS won't ship it if it doesn't run. I used them to ship a Patrol from SanDiego to Huntsville, AL it was only $500 without the insurance (a lot further than Naples to Nashville).
U-Haul is also correct, that car is too big for one of their trailers. Not too heavy, probably too long.
Thought about getting a local mechanic or family friend to fix the pump, then you fly down and drive it back?

I could fix it myself if I had the time. Driving it back is another story. I wouldn't trust it make the 800+ mile trip, and don't want to put the miles on it (it only has 32,000 original).

WOW. These people sound like scam artists. I'll be damned if someone takes money from me and then returns a damaged vehicle. I might have to do the whole COD thing and bring my gun because if my car was damaged i'm not paying them until my cars fixed and they're not keeping my car.
