Question

Operation 4x4

New member
Sorry if its on the wrong section..

I was looking for a hitch receiver for the front bumper of my TJ. I just cant seem to find one. Can anyone help me out with a link or something? Also looking for a deer feeder to fit on hitch. Any help is welcome.

Thanks

Olympic 4x4 used to make one. also JC whitney used to sell one that bolted on like a winch plate.

Just out of curiosity, but why not get a rear bumper with the 2" receiver? I got one some time ago, and it works like a charm... And there are as many designs out there (and prices!) as you can think of (some including the option for the tire carrier as well, which is good to consider if you plan to go to larger tires).

He's looking for the front not rear, would look kinda funny with the spare tire on the front ;)

One issue with those bumbers and why you don't see a lot more is because they are not ment to actually tow. they attach generally to the rear cross member and maybe tie into the frame in one or two locations on each side of the frame bottom. Not very strong and the manufacturers don't want the liability. the rear cross member is super flimsey and those bottom bolts are only single sheer and not strong at all. even a Grade 8 bolt has the same single shear strength as a grade 5.

I guess I should have read the post properly! Sorry!:D But still, the point stands; there are front bumpers with the receiver built in... Doing an online search, I found the Bullnose one (I dont personally like it, but still, it has the receiver) and the Olympic.

The Jeep is not so great for towing anyway because of the short wheelbase, so I dont plan on towing anything over 1,000# anyway, which means I should not worry much. As for the shear strength, even the front bumper (where the winch is mounted) is only held on by 4 bolts to the frame (which is what Hanson recommends), and this is strong enough to tow the Jeep out of a mud hole... Also, the HighRock 4X4 one was tow rated IIRC, if you are looking to tow (I did not like the fact that it was open on the rear, which means all the mud from the rear tires ends up inside the bumper, but it's the only one tow rated).

I'm 6'5", so yeah... To be honest, I was quite surprised when I tried the Jeep the first time (when I was buying it) that I actually could fit without isses! And I like the bike too! Costa Rica has some nice mountain trails to take it down from, so I'm happy I brought it with me!
