T-case skidplate

Just curious, the 03 and newer TJ skids have that huge scoop on the front that hangs down a lot further than the older TJ skids, is there any chance the older style skid might fit? I think the huge scoop was there for the auto trannies, so if ya dont have the auto and the older style would fit, it would get you better clearance and should be cheap if you can find a used one. I dont know if it will fit though. Maybe someone else does.

Well, if I'm reading my Quadratec catalog correctly, the Skyjacker TC Skid does *not* require an SLE if you're only running a 2" lift, but I would have to keep the 1" TC drop. Can anyone confirm that this is correct?? I mean, I know using the 1" drop kind of defeats the purpose of the aftermarket skid, but I'd still pick up some clearance due to the aftermarket skid being 2-3" shorter than the stocker. I guess what I'm saying is that if I'm going to have to replace it anyway, I might as well upgrade, and if I already have an aftermarket skid then I can eventually get the SLE and lose the TC drop. Or would I be better off just waiting and doing it all at once? At any rate, I called and talked to Mount Zion today and Mike said he was going to put together some options for me, so we'll decide after they make sure there is no further damage.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Talked to MZO, they have a stock TC skid they'll sell me for $100. In a way, I'd rather just go ahead and get an aftermarket skid, but the problem is that unless I get the SYE I'm probably going to still have drivetrain vibrations - basically, the high profile skid moves the TC up 1", and the TC drop is 1", so essentially the pinion angle is going to be the same as it was from the factory - i.e., I'll have some vibrations due to the lift.

So, as much as I hate to do it, I'm thinking I should just go ahead and get the stocker from MZO. I also apparantly damaged the oil pan and it has to be replaced ($125). The front passenger side lower control arm took a shot, but I think it's ok so I'm going to let that go for now.

Anyway, as far as the TC skid is concerned, I'd like to get some additional input from you guys before I make the final decision. I'm calling Mike back in the morning (unless he calls me again tonight). Let me know what you think I should do.

Thanks in advance!

If you have good oil pressure I'd leave the oil pan alone. But thats just me. Look at the dent and see how big it is, there's a little bit of room b/w the oil pump and the bottom of the sump.

Have you checked your drive shaft u-joints yet? just to make sure you didn't crush a needle or something? Have you checked to make sure you didn't knock a weight off your drive shaft?

No, *I* haven't checked that stuff, but MZO gave it a once over and I would think that is stuff that they would have checked...am I wrong?

Check it out for yourself just to make sure. All it takes is you crawling under there, looking, and then grabbing hold of the shaft and seeing if there's any play in the joints.

What should you do? You should pony up for the SYE and look around on a local board for a used tcase skid for less or spend the money on the new skid too.

The question is, what is feasible for you to do at the moment. Do you want to eat Ramen Noodles for the next couple weeks?
