We're going wheeling on Saturday and the weather people are predicting at least a few inches late Friday night.

Any tips for wheeling in the snow?

When in doubt throw it in 4x, I thought I was fine, had it 2x, and lost control of my back end. I also had a bunch of weight back there, so it probably didn't help.

johnny7point0, Do what I do, just close your eyes and go!

I have been hearing, a foot-o-snow for Warren, it should be interesting.

often the opposite of mud... in mud, you want the tires spinning to clean themselves out and regrab.... in snow, spinning will cause the snow to pack, and create ice, you want to deliver just enough torque to move, any more will keep you still, or send you down....

you can't steer when you are on your brakes and sliding, so if you find yourself sliding, let off the brakes, steer, then try stopping again... if you are headed down a hill or into danger... i often find it best to let off the brakes, and head for the softest backstop near

if the snow is too deep wheel spinning will just dig holes. rule of thumb is too let as much air pressure out of the tires as possiable so that you get a larger contact patch. however i have found it is REALLY fun to steer using the rear tires...lol it is an acquiered taste up here in Canada. kinda like a game almost...you know like how ricers enter into drifting competions.......fun....need...more snow..

Two words of advice from last time I Went wheeling in the snow:

1) Wheel in 4-hi, I never wheel in 4-lo, if you get stuck in 4-lo yous got nowheres to go. If you get stuck in 4-hi, put it in 4-lo and say bye

2) When youre done, (before you get on the road) take something, prefferably some hot water and flush out your wheels, and the undercarriage. I had a horrible experience the next day after wheeling in the snow. The Wheels were all packed with ice and I didnt know it till I hit the highway and started to loose control.

Bring a shovel. I will have one on my jeep on saturday! if you want a small compact thingy, go to the army navey store and get what I think in called a E-tool. It is a shovel that folds up real nice but can also be used as a hoe and ten other things!
Bring plenty of tow straps, trash bags, spare socks and shoes.

About the 4-hi
When I have wheeled in snow in the past, I have always used 4-lo. I find 4-hi to easy to spin the tires. use 4-lo and very little of the go pedal unless you need it.
also in 4-hi, due to gearing, more likely to spin tires.
