Converting 04 Grand Cherokee to 4x4 using 03 Grand Cherokee 4x4 engine & drive train
I am the original owner of an 04 Grand Cherokee Limited 4x2 that needs a new engine. I've found an 03 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 with 120k miles for sale for $1,800. It runs and drives fine but the body is beat to hell. I want to swap out the engine and drive train of the 03 with the 04. It seems pretty straight forward but I thought I'd better ask those with expertise in these matters what problems I might expect? The 04 is in great shape or I would scrap it and go buy a used 4x4. Although mechanically inclined (I build Harleys for a hobby) I have never taken on an automotive task this in depth (I've replaced the occasional water pump, starter, vacuum system, etc.). Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
