  • Hi, and thank you for asking me for info.

Everyone says the 1.08 (287cfm) Motorcraft carb is the best for the 4.2. I have one and it runs lean with size 48 jets. I don't have much for an air filter, and I do not have a cat in my exhaust; maybe that leaned it out too much? I am trying to find a 1.14 2100 (300cfm) carb to try out.

I know a guy with a Holley 7448 2 bbl; it has 350 cfm. It's on a tired 258 with a header, and it runs a tad rich, but well. I don't know much about the Holley 2300.

All that said, a 1.08 Motorcraft is a stock replacement. eBag usually has them for around $30, but they will more than likely need rebuilt, so add $20 for the kit and maybe 20 min. of your time.

    Hope this helps.
