u could maybe drop the tank, disconnect pull the sending unit. dry the gas off of it and solder around it. or you could braze it if both parts are steel or steel alloy. JB weld may be a good candidate if you dont want to pull the sending unit. best of luck. od

RE: progress... i believe a set of rollers for a amc v8 may fit the 258. youd just have 4 left over. to find out u could compare at the parts store with the factory rockers and i think youll find there darn close from what i remember. as for the factory replacements, $17 sounds right for each...

A jeep with a fuel guage that works???? never heard of it. the fuel guage in my 87 is the tripometer. when i had my 79, i used the odometer and a small notepad. also helps to keep a small can of gas with ya just in case. it the best thing ive come upon without having replace the sending unit...

check the front wheel bearings also. worn bearings may cause the front end to shake or wobble. od

I hear ya. they just changed the laws round here a year or two ago. I used to live in a county where they only checked the basics until the laws changed and i could get away with a hollowed cat and present but unfuntional smog equipment. Now that i moved one county north i have to worry about...

I have an 87'' w/ the 258 and my O2 sensor is on the outside lower end of the exhaust manifold. Ive never replaced mine though because i bypassed the computer and replaced the carter. A bad O2 sensor would definitly screw with the fuel injection. good luck od

could be your O2 sensor. if thats bad it would cause a loss of power and fuel mileage. does she smell like shes running rich? od

RE: start-up shreak id probably install a pressure release valve set at about 150psi just in case your pressure switch malfunctions so you dont have a bad situation occur. this release valve can also serve as a drain valve. od

it does sound like metal on metal. i think ill have to try sparky-watts cure and beat the crap out of it until it quits. quits making the noise that is. thanks guys od
