Jeep TJ Axle Shafts in a YJ

I got all the parts I need to do the swap including the Alloy USA TJ tube seals. I will be working on it this weekend. I got the passenger side oil seal - NAPA part number 11800. It fits the axle shaft. I hope it will fit the housing. I heard that freezing the oil seal overnight will make it...

    1989 YJ Starting Problem (HELP!!!)

Check the idle step motor on the throttle body. My Jeep was doing the same thing. I had to hold the gas pedal to start it. Replacing the step motor fixed it.

Jeep TJ Axle Shafts in a YJ

I am getting ready to install Jeep TJ Dana 30 shafts in my YJ. I also have an Aussie locker going in at the same time. I plan on taking out all the vacuum lines for the CAD and making a block off plate. My Jeep uses the Vacuum switch on the firewall for the 4WD dash light. Will a Jeep TJ 4WD...

    Heater Core

I recently replaced the heater core in my 1989 Jeep YJ. The first one I got from Napa was aluminum and light/cheaply made. It did not have the mounting tabs welded on. The sales guy at Napa told me I would just have to fabricate a way to mount it. The heck with that. I went to Autozone...

    Rear Tire Carrier Latch Rattles

I have the Smittybilt classic bumper and tire carrier. The latch on mine also rattled. I cut a small piece of an old mud flap. I use it as a spacer inside the square hole where the latch goes. It was just thick enough to make the latch tight.

    Clutch! need help now!

The Jeep YJ uses a hydraulic clutch. It sounds like you got a leak and lost all the fluid. Check the clutch master and slave cylinder. Also check the hydraulic line.

Jeep body mounts - rubber or poly?

I used the Daystar 1 inch body lift on my Jeep. It does not use spacers..........it is basically a 1 inch taller body mount. It is poly and I don't notice much of a difference in vibration.

    Body lift hardware question

I installed the Daystar 1 inch body lift on my old Jeep. Many of the old rubber body mounts were rotted. I did not reuse any of the old stuff. The body lift came with everything needed to replace the old mounts.

    Fuel line leak???

The fuel filter is located just in front of the rear tire on the drivers side. There should be rubber fuel hoses and clamps. It is most likely leaking there.

    CB Antenna

I have a simple whip CB antenna mounted on the spare tire stop. I cut a notch in the tail light housing. The cable runs up behind it. The antenna is a few inches taller than the hard top. I don't care how good the reception is. I only use the CB on the trail.

    Ideal Tire Pressure

Thanks for the input. I think I will keep it between 12 - 15 PSI on the trail. The old Jeep is open diff - I need all the traction I can get. I do plan on getting alloy shafts and Aussie locker for the front Dana 30. Gotta save up some cash.

    Ideal Tire Pressure

What tire pressure do you guys run on the trail? I have 35 inch mud terrains on 15 X 8 rims. I don't have beadlocks. I normally run my tires at 15 PSI offroad. I wonder if it would be safe to go a little lower.

    What's in your Jeep

Recovery gear - tow strap, D ring (receiver hitch), heavy gloves, winch remote. Cheap hand tools - ratchet, sockets, wrenches, etc. Bottle jack, 4 way lug wrench, heavy duty portable air compressor. Small cooler with water and food. Most of the tools and recovery gear stays in my Jeep all...

    tire pressure

Most tire dealers put them around 35 PSI. The small Jeeps are light. I have 35 inch tires on my Jeep and 35 PSI is too high. I run them at 25 PSI on the street and 15 PSI offroad. You could do the chalk test - draw a chalk line across the tire tread. drive a short distance and check the...

    Transfer Case fluid

Synthetic ATF should be fine. I use conventional because it's cheaper.
