    Different kind of YJ

Thanks for the kind words. I have a straight front axle with a 4 inch drop (from Speedway Motors). For the rear at first I used lowering blocks and drilled a new hole closer to the chassis at the front mount for the rear springs. But, nobody was pleases with the blocks, so the shop building...

    Different kind of YJ

NiteDog, thanks for the support. It is amusing to me to see all of the Jeeps (and other SUV's) here in the city that look like they are ready for serious off road competition when they probably never see dirt. For them, it is all about the image. They need step stools to get into their...

Beginning of the hand fabricated cage Should be tearing up the streets in a few weeks, but with the weather we are having 4WD would have been useful.

    Different kind of YJ

This is the only mystery part of my project. The engine came from a good friends show car (a Malibu). He put less 1000 miles on it, just driving it from his house to local shows and cruise nights. The only reason he sold it was because he built a new supercharged motor. It was professionally...

    Different kind of YJ

Well, I was hoping that my passengers would need a puke bag when I stepped on the gas. Seems like that is already happening to some of you and I havent even put it in first gear:)

You got me there. Actually I have seen a few of those around here also. Cute but not very functional.

    Different kind of YJ

Just for the record, my brother also lives in Colorado (Durango) and he has a conventional TJ, but out there he uses it off road. So we do have one normal Jeep in the family :) But mine is faster! And I think mine is more like something one would create on LSD, not crack.

    Different kind of YJ

I get that a lot. But the reality is, the Jeep makes a good platform for a race car. It has a solid frame and plenty of room for working on the engine. Plus, for street cruising it is perfect. With the top down and the doors off it will be a blast in the summer time. The full roll cage and...

    Different kind of YJ

We are crazy-that is why the owner of one shop said that this project is ridiculous. Hence, what I am naming it This is photoshopped, but I want to do it in the same font as the 'Wrangler' was on some of the special editions. And in the same color as the seatbelts. Note the 'un' in front of...

    Different kind of YJ

Well, here goes. This is probably going to upset some of you here, but I am turning my 1989 YJ into something it never was intended to be. Here in New York City, there are not any places to go off roading (so all of the lifted Jeeps you see here are all for show). There are a lot of people that...

    Custom sway bar

I would like to put a front sway bar on my 1989 Wrangler, and was wondering if anybody has used the front tube, like the RockLock system by Skyjacker? I dont want the ability to lock-just something to attach to the axle to help out on the corners. If you recall my earlier posts, I am building...

    Shackle length

Thanks for the replies. I checked mine today and the reason it appears longer is because it does not go through the frame so more of the bars are visible. Anyhow, the Jeep is sitting at a good height now so no need to lower the front now.

    Gas filler hose size

Thanks for the information. Hard to believe that my year is so small. And sorry that the newer ones arent quite big enough for the hose my cell uses. I guess I will have to adapt my giant 2 1/2 filler to the smaller 1 3/4 inch gas tank.

    Shackle length

Are the front shackles longer than the rear on a 89 YJ?

    Gas filler hose size

1 inch is way too small for a fuel filler hose. It has to be over 1 1/2 inches. The first fuel cell I planned on using had a 2 1/2 inch hose and fuel cap. I can reduce it to 1 3/4 for the new fuel tank. Or, if the Jeeps use a 1 3/4 hose, then I can just buy a regular Jeep cap and hook it up...

    Gas filler hose size

Does anybody know what size hose the gas filler hose is? I am installing a fuel cell and it uses a 1 3/4 hose. Although it is going in a 1989 Wrangler, which normally has the filler in the back behind the license plate, I am converting it to the side like the newer Jeeps (so the hose fits...

    Bolt broken

Well, I got it fixed but it was not what I thought. I pulled the grill out and cut out the bottom to access the nut. The problem was not a broken bolt stuck in the nut (although that is what me and 4 others thought when we looked inside through the hole). Instead, the cage was broken allowing...

    Bolt broken

The front body bolt is broken. What is the best way to get it out? I was thinking about removing the entire grill assembly to make things easier. Is it hard to get off? A side question-I am replacing my door and windshield hinges and many of the Torq bolts are stripping and need to be drilled...
