    New Brakes for the YJ

Thanks all. Okay, it sounds like the edge goes to semi-metallic (slightly). But is one 'noisier' than the other? I hate the sound some brakes make, even though there's nothing wrong with them. Which one is quieter?

    New Brakes for the YJ

That was my next question. Are ceramic pads better than the semi-metallic? If so, why?

    New Brakes for the YJ

My 1988 YJ needs new brake pads and rotors. I'll probably change the brake hoses too (fronts and rear). Can anyone recommend a good brand based on their experience? I live near a Napa and an AutoZone. Are these ok? Should I go with something better? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks......

    Help! Leaking transmission

Good points, but unfortunatly it is coming from the transmission. The oil I'm finding below the manual transmission is new, clean oil. When I changed the fluid in my trans I used 10w/40 motor oil because thats what's recommended for a Peugeot BA 10/5 trans. What came out might have been a...

    Help! Leaking transmission

It seems to be leaking from either the front seal or the gasket between the two halves of the BA 10/5 transmission I have. It shifts fine so I don't want to go crazy taking things apart if I can halt the leak (or slow it down) with a good leak-stop additive. Anybody use one of these before...

    Help! Leaking transmission

Hey all: I have an 88 YJ with the 4.2L and the Peugeot 5 speed manual trans. I have always had a slight oil leak in the trans but it seems to have gotten worse after I changed the oil recently. The drain and fill plugs are tight (no leak there). Can anyone recommend an additive that will help...

    Gear oil question

Hey Megamole: The square hole in the fill plug is 5/16. I've heard others say that 8mm will also work. I went to my local hardware store a bought a 1 or 1.5 inch long piece of 5/16 square metal stock. Once its inserted in the hole, I use a 1/4 inch wrench to turn it. It works fine. As far as...

    Gear oil question

Thanks Bounty Hunter. Did you also run it with 10w40 oil in the Peugeot trans? Would it do any harm if I used 75w 90 GL3? I heard that Peugeot recommends 10W 40 motor oil but a Jeep dealer I called claims straight 90w is needed. I'm going crazy.........

    Gear oil question

Thanks for the reply. I'm just wondering why one manual trans (AX15) needs 75w-90 gear oil while another trans(Peugeot BA 10/5) can get by on 10w 40 motor oil? Aren't they somewhat similar inside? Just curious..... Also, you mentioned that you had an 88 YJ (with the BA 10/5) for about a year...

    Gear oil question

Hey all: I need to change the oil in my 5 speed transmission and I was hoping someone could guide me in the right direction. I have the Peugeot BA 10/5 transmission and I'm hearing all kinds of things about what to use. Some say regular motor oil and some say 75W 90 gear oil (GL3 only). ...

    1988 Wrangler For Sale

I'm selling my 1988 Wrangler. It has the 4.2L engine and 5 spd manual transmission. It has a Motorcraft 2150 carb, TFI Ignition upgrade and Nutter Bypass. It also has 4 new shocks, catalytic converter and heater core. The ignition module is new too. Its a great color blue - same one as on the...

    Turn signal problem

I have a 1988 YJ with the 4.2L engine. My problem is that the left turn signal doesn't turn off automatically after I make a turn. The right one works fine. I guess I need a new directional switch? The dealer told me there are some small springs in there I should look at first. At any rate, the...

    Ignition woes..

Thanks for the info...There is an AUTOZONE very close to me but I don't know what year or model to ask for since they aren't for a Jeep. I'll look around for some writeups on the internet. Replacing the resistor is another option I guess, though I would love to have a bigger spark (12V). I heard...

    Ignition woes..

I have a 1988 YJ with the 4.2L engine. It was "nuttered" last year. A couple of weeks ago I did the TFI ignition upgrade. I used the "juicebox" from CRT Performance. The jeep ran great for about 2 weeks before it started stalling and finally died. I did all of the testing in the Chilton manual...

    Help with the Nutter....

Anyone out there do the Nutter Bypass on their YJ/CJ? I'm getting ready to do it soon and I have the instructions in front of me but there is just one thing I'm not sure of and that's setting the timing. Normally, I set the timing at 9 degrees BTDC at 1600 RPM (hose disconnected and plugged)...
