13.5" wide tires fit on 4" lifted YJ?

Will 13.5" x 33s fit under a YJ with a 4" lift?

The rims are Cragar soft 8s, 15x10, 4" backspace.

If not, why - will they rub? Should I add a 1" body lift?

I saw the 2005 Toyo open country M/T, talk about awesome! Problem is they dont come in 12.5" width...

Really want these tires!
Guy said he'd give em to me for $130/tire!

Height will fit and you'll only have rubbing if you don't have your bumpstop extensions installed. The width of the tire might rub your leaf packs, but getting some wheels with more backspacing will fix this. I would go with 3.5" or 3.25" backspacing. 4" backspacing is definitely going to rub your leaf packs.

And when you say rub, do you mean when I turn it all the way to the left or right...? I can live w/that, my current tires do that now...

OR will they (12.5 or 13.5) rub all the time...? That would be a problem

4" of lift is fine for 33s and wont rub much if at all. What hi_c was saying is there is a chance of the tires rubbing when you turn left to right like you said. But that can be solved, when you order the rims get them with the correct backspacing. If they still rub you can adjust the steering stops.

Good choice on the wheels!! I love my "Soft 8's"! Before I got them I had my 31's on stock rims and they'd rub at full turn. It's a simple fix to adjust the steering stops: http://www.imajeep.com/Steering_Stop_Adjust/adjusting_steering_stop.htm , that's where I went for info. I don't know how 12.5's will differ, but the Soft 8's and 10.5's with 4" of backspacing didn't rub at all after I reset my steering stops to the original position. Even with 31's and no lift, I get just a wee tad of rub on the right rear fender flare and that's all.

EDIT: Only rubs at full flex (stock flex, which ain't much!)

I already own the 15x10s with 4" backspace rims.

I read that the stock 1987 YJ alloys have 5.5" backspace, which makes me think I should be ok..?

stock wheels are 5.25 BS (the 15x7" stock wheels). I had 32x11.50's and they rubbed the packs when cutting a tight turn on the stock 15x7's but they were ok when I adjusted the stops.

Most lift manufacturors reccomend 3.5" BS for 33's and 4" of lift on a YJ. Your wheels will be 1/2" closer than that from B.S. and 1/2" closer from the wider tire (the other 1/2" will be on the outside ), so you will be 1" closer to the springs than that recommendation. That said, I think you'll be fine with a mild adjustment to the steering stops. Using extended bumpstops should avoid having the tires rub the wheelwells if it's an issue, but you lift should have come with those.

thanks twisted copper, the tires are on the way! Unfortunatly toyo cant get them to my supplier til late march, so Ill be riding 4.5" up with my stock pizza cutters for a week!

If you do have to adj the stops, here are 2 links explainint it. It is very easy to do if you back out the whole bolt via the lock nut instead of breaking the weld. It will be obvious when you look at it. I just used a couple washers around the bolt to space it out a bit. Some don't care for this mod but my YJ still had a better turning radius than most vehicles even after I did it.

Yuppers, mine, too. But, when I took them back out, I could tell a big difference! I love that tight radius!!!

You'll have some rubbing in the wheelwells. It won't be anything bad. I doubt you'll hit the packs with the 33s, but if you do, you shouldn't have to adjust the stops far at all.
