8.8 vs 9 inch

I'm pretty sure the 9" is stronger, but a 8.8 out of a explorer has the correct lug nut pattern, and is just about the same width as a dana 35c for YJ's & TJ's.

9 is stronger, 8.8 is cheaper and easier to get at the junkyards. Plus it fits with less mods like Jesse said.

depends on the axle, there were some pretty poorly designed 9" axles, low spline count, non-nodular third members that have less carrier strength than a 8.8 from a full size pickup or later explorer. then again, a 31 spline 9" nodular third member will be far superior to the previously mentioned 8.8

8.8 will either be 4 lug, 5 on 4.5 or 5 on 5.5

9" will be either 5 on 4.5 or 5 on 5.5 and supposedly 6 on 5.5, never seen it, but rumored to exhist, found in airport tram cars or something.

the 8.8's whether it's an explorer, pickup, mustangs or Mark series car are not bad, but they are a C-clip axle.

if somenoe has a 9" axle for sale, you should do your home work as to what it is. might be a diamond in the rough, might be a boat anchor.

avoid ranger 8.8 and 94 and older explorer axles.

so if someone
