and now on to power...

got another novel for you guys!

I currently have a weber 32/36 on my rebuilt 258. Runs awesome.

I have 200K on my 87 YJ peugot transmission and drivetrain.

Is it better to begin with the power (?) :
(clifford perfomance 4.0 L head, intake, header, cam, Weber TBI) till it breaks the drivetrain...
OR
drivetrain (?) : begin with something like a ford 9" rear and dana 44 front , ---if I replace those guys do I have to replace the transmission and transfer case to match everything else? If so is the NV4500 and Atlas II (probly the 3.01 occaisonal low set up)
a good set? Q-tec has them as a new matched set to my motor for 5Gs. Way more than Id like to spend but if its the most reliable route than so be it; ill add it to the future mods list...

My goal is to have a powerful, tough, reliable daily driver jeep

the idea of dropping in a V8 seems like cheating.
thanks

Why not build a stroker? It can be used as a daily driver, has tons of torque, and you can buy a kit with all new parts or just merge the 4.2 and 4.0 if you come across the extra engine and have the skills.
200k is alot of miles for any engine... although mine is past 206k and still going... but I'm sure it would love a rebuild! Sorry this wasn't one of your ideas but perhaps it should be one!

I would say you only NEED the upgraded axles if you are going BIG with the tires.

I want a stroker, can you tell?

really depends on your funds....
If you add drivetrain first you can hold off as long as you have to to fund the power...
on the other hand.....
If you add power, you might have to be funding drivetrain quicker than you entended!

If funds are not an option...do BOTH at same time! :D

Ya i added power first, nothing like replacing broken axles in the mud or on the side of a cliff. Add the axles first. Look for wagoneer 44s, easy swap. Your very luck to get even half the miles out of your P.O.S. peugot transmission, mine blew up at 105k,plus swap out for a stroker or stock 4.0L is still 80% more power than you have now...............

Anything wrong with the Peugeot transmission in there now? I'd swap it out for an AX15, they're reliable and can hold up behind a reasonable amount of power. I'd also look into a 4.0L HO head swap instead of something store bought.

Leave the 231 alone and go with heavier axles, with the correct gear ratio for your engine and the size tires you want to run.
