"Armstrong" power steering

just thought I'd share...........had an interesting morning. Heading to work this morning as usual, cut off the 4-lane on my favorite little curvy road and was enjoying the ride when all of a sudden, mid curve, felt my steering tightening up...........badly!!!! Then the little dash light pops on "check gauges"!!! Power steering was completely gone and noticed the ammeter (sp?) slowly sinking into the sunset!?! My first thought was I blew my serpentine, but I didn't hear or see anything. Luckily, I have an electric fan, so I shut off the lights and the radio and limped on in to work. Popped the hood, and sure enough, the belt (intact) was just kinda moseying around the pulleys - broke the spring tensioner. So, at 5:00, $35 and a little grunting later, all is well again. Got a belt coming tomorrow (figured I might as well replace it while I'm at it - 83,000 miles). Just another day in the life!  Hope y'all had a better Monday.

When you get done repairing yours how about a little drive over to Utah and replace mine...just hit 50,000 miles the other day.

Sorry to hear your about your troubles but its a good wake up call for the rest of us...how well is your serpentine belt today?

Man, that's a long trip for a 5 minute job!!   Yeah, it woke me up good - brought me back to the days when power steering was an "option"!

MY serpentine belt today is BRAND NEW!!!!! The old one's O.K. - a little aged, that's all. I'll keep it for a spare.
