Back up lights not working.

Back up lights not working.
Someone told me the switch was inside the transmission.
Is that true, or is there a more practical solution,
like a fuse, or a switch under the console shifter plate ?

On my 98 GC Laredo it is called the park/neutral position switch. Hard to get to and mildly expensive.
