I've been doing that for years, using the 8a in place of the 16a. More filter surface area and a little more oil capacity. Also a little more surface area for oil cooling but I'm sure that has minimal affect. Fits on there good, I use the larger 8a on my '95 2.5L and a previous '98 4.0L we owned.
