broken spring hanger

Today my front driver's side shackle looked a little crooked, and sure enough the spring hanger is braking (the side inboard of the bolts holding it on is broken, i imagine the other side won't hold up much longer with it like that). I guess I'll just bolt a new one on instead of welding it, since it is bent a little, but my main question is, what causes these things to break? Am I driving the jeep too hard, or did the previous owner just beat the crap out of it? Just wondering how well I should be using my Rancho suspension...

Do you mean the shackle mount that bolts to the frame? If so, don't worry about it..... they bend and break alot.
There is a hole in the mount that is there to clear a rivet in the frame. It creates a weak spot because of the material removed. That clearance hole is between the area where the mount bolts to the frame and where the shackle bolts to the mount. As the suspension flexes and pulls on the mount, it can bend and break right where that clearance hole is.

There are several companies that make heavy duty shackle hangers, but fabbing a set wouldn't be too hard. You can gusset the factory hangers too, and that works just fine.

RE: Stroking a 4.0

I picked up a set of front and rear warrior shackle hangers today at truckfest. I have an extra pair of rear cj lift springs...would now be a good time to switch to 2.5" wide springs, or are there other things I would need to modify too (other than the shackles)?
