i have a 77 cj5 w 304 and cant get it to idle either loads up or not enough when i adjust on it it has been rebuilt any ideas

loads up like in carboned plugs?

low compression will mimic rich mixture.
as will retarded timing to some extent.

make sure all the jets and orifaces are clear...and jets are tight.
a float not floating at the right level can act rich. if they're brass check for pin holes. shake them and listen for sloosh

crap under a float valve can also act rich.

did the problem begin with the carb rebuild?

lastly I'm assuming the air filter passes air.

...and I'm assuming when you say "loads up" you are talking about a rich mixture???

it started after rebuild i figure it may be idl escrew holes are worn out or seat are torn thanks for the info probaly need to take back off and look at float and jets but it got good flow when you hit accelerater

what are the idle screws supposed to be set at its a motorcraft i started at 1and 3/4 and went all the eway to three turns out either loading up or not enough choking out
