dont know about the d300 but the np231 runs atf - and i did read a web page w/one good pc. of advice - open the fill hole first (why? - if you drain it then CANT open the fill youre screwed... why is it the simple things are the ones you never think of???) - just felt like typing i guess.... ;o)

Plain old conventional gear oil. I usually run the 75-90w in D20s and D300s. The FSM calls for 90w I think.

I run too much mud and water and change it too often to use synthetic.

I use 80-90w in my d300 since that's what the dealer recommended...so far so good. Hey Junkpile, how often do you change your drive train fluids? Just wondern' if I should be chaning mine more often than the manual suggests since I do plow through the occasional mud hole.
