I had to replace timing gear in my 90 yj. Theirs a compression pin that acts as a key and keeps the camshaft key aligned with the camshaft. When I pulled the gear, the pin stayed. Couldn't pull it out. Asked a couple of people, told these pins are designed to push through so started sinking it. went about half inch into camshaft and stopped. DId it bottom out, does it even go all the way thru. Help!

totaled, sell and buy wrangler.  no i have no idea.

If it didn't come off with the old one, and the new one didn't come with a new pin, you probably shouldn't have messed with it, but I've never torn one apart. Is the cam keyed, or is the pin what keys to the gear? If the latter is the case you screwed up good.

The '90 is a Wrangler, only it has a jeep suspension as opposed to the newer car springs.

Why didn't you merely replace the timing gearset with the key in place? I'm not following. You workin on a 258 or 2.5L?

Lax,

Not only is the YJ a wrangler, but as Bounty mentioned, it is the last wrangler with actual Jeep (as in leafspring - manly, tough, and offroady!) suspension (unlike COILS!!! YUK!!! Those belong in 4 door sedans!).

Light,

Sorry, dont know...
