Dana 30/ AMC 20

Hi. How much HP can they take be for upgrading. I have a stock 350 but thinking of putting in a 500 HP 383 stoker. I use the CJ-7 for bogging/trails/ heads up racing.

Not sure! I doubt it will live long though with that much power. I have a 69cj with 327, the guy I got it from raced it in sand drags. When I got it I found a lot of teeth missing on my front axle ring gear. I have a dana 27 front axle which is weaker that the 30 but its less power than your wanting to run too (just a small comparison). I have the tapperd dana 44 rear which seemed to hold up fine. The AMC 20 is considered some what stronger than a 44 when one peice shafts are installed due to the larger ring gear, so the 20 may be ok. I would do some research on the 30 though. May want to put a 44 up front.

I did some on the Dana 44. They also have there strong and weak points too. Some say after market Dana 30 axles are stronger than the Dana 44

I really couldnt tell you. With cromoly shafts you may be right.
