Does the rear axle universal joint part come off?

A 91 Cherokee I'm working on broke a universal joint the other day. It broke the part of the axle that the universal joint connects to. It looks like it just has a nut holding it on, but I've never worked on an axle before. Can I just remove that part and replace it with one from a junkyard?

I think your talking about the Pinion yoke. Yes you can replace that part from a junkyard.. One thing to keep in mind is the proper torque on that nut that reatains it.. I'm not for sure if that uses a crush sleeve or not, but if it does, i think you need to install a new crush sleeve as well. I could be wrong.

I believe there is a crush sleeve on it. The rear on my GC had one and I think its the same rear as in the Cherokee.
