Heater Core Bypass?

RE: Wanted: Stock CJ front shackle.

I'm in the process of replacing my heater core (it's a process because I can't get the damn heater assembly back in place). Can I temporarily bypass the heater core by just coupling the hoses? Are the chances of overheating dramatically increased without a heater?

I did that in my mustang, just looped the hose back to the engine. I drove it like that for 2 summers, didn't have any problems... I'm sure it wont hurt the jeep.

Sure you can do that!

Believe it or not, before automobile air conditioning became a commonplace, people used to install bypass valves in their car heater system hoses to bypass the heater core during summer.

The idea was to get that box full of scalding hot fluid out of the passenger compartment.

Old cars, like old Jeeps, often were not originally equipped with a heater system fluid control valve. The coolant circulated through the heater core any time the engine was running.
