Hook a Lady Up with Lift Info.

 I know I know, your tired of lift questions and discussions. Me sowry!

I need some information though. I did alot of research on lifts when I iniatially was getting one and new tires.

Well, Now that I have had one for almost a year, I'd like to go higher. I don't mean skyscraper high but just a few inches to help get the rear bumper over most obstacles. It and the gas tank skid seem to catch everything.

BUT, I'd like to use exisiting lift of 2" spacers and 31" tires. Is this possible? Are there kits or other ways I can lift her a bit more with existing parts?

Wondering, please advise.

MOCK O2 sensor?

Ive heard of people using the BB spacers with a normal spring lift also. So I suppose you could get say, a 2" spring lift plus use the spacers and have a 4" lift, but Im guessing you would be happier in the long run if you just bought a 4" kit and sold the spacers to some other jeeper.

The other option would be a body lift. I personally dont like them, but many do, its all a matter of opinion.

Get a 1 or 2 inch body lift, then you can move the gas tank higher, and get it out of the way. Besides a Jeep will look like a Jeep if it has a body lift or not.

I'm using 2" spacers with a 3" lift coil on the front of my XJ (the front ends are very similar). I removed the stock isolator (rubber bushing above the coil spring) and I have about 4 1/4" lift.

Rusty's offroad has a 2" which might be the perfect height combo'd with your spacers. You could remove the stock isolators and net 3 1/4" or leave them and net around 4" lift.
$310 for shocks/coils.

The problem with going that route would be at higher lift heights you'll need to address other issues like brake line relocating or lengthening, transfer case drop, and depending how high you go control arms, swaybar links/disconnects, and even addressing the trackbar length.

I can see you want to keep the spacers after spending the $$ on them and the time to install them, but there are plenty of reasonably priced 3 and 4" kits out there too that would come with control arms, brackets and everything you'll need to go higher.
Rough country would be one - they have a $499 4" kit that has everything

Here is that kit on ebay from a guy whom I and HI-C have both bought from (good guy) with free shipping:

Shop around, but I thought I'd try to give you some ideas.

Good luck, and looking forward to seeing what you do on this. We will of course expect before and after pics

Oh, and BTW, I've seen TJ's with 4" of lift and 31's. I think it would be fine. I think DickWilderness ran his like that for a while.

When the Kuhmo's wear out, then worry about tire size :!:

I forgot about body lifts! Twisted, I can't remember about lift coils. Gosh, it has been a long time. Thanks for all the information and links, I wil certainly look it up and decide on something!

I'm not too worried about tire size or looks L33. I know bigger tires will come someday. Appreciate it everyone. I'll let ya know what I decide!

One thing about a body lift is it wont raise your clearance at all, just the body itself. It will allow for larger tires though.

But the larger tires add clearance under the diffs. The extra space provided by the BL allows a flat skid and easily raised gas tank. It raises the rocker panels, which are more prone to get hung up than the frame rails. It doesn't have any negative effects on your drivetrain angles or steering geometry.

I'd rather have a suspension lift if I had to only have one, I'm not TOTALLY stupid. But a BL can be a useful, performance adding, clearance making, low dollar answer to some common problems.

Unless your Jeep is a big pile of rust, a BL should be alot more simple than a TJ suspension lift to install.

That's why I made the comment on the BL. They have there + & -'s, but she mentioned wanting to keep the 31's and raise the rear bumper, so a body lift wouldn't make sense if those are her goals.

Looking at all this Twisted, I think your right. A BL would give me some oopmh to look cool but I don't want cool, I want utility. I need to read into this further and look in my parts catalog at the stuff you referenced.

Thanks!

I've got a BL, and while my Jeep does in fact look cool, that's not the reason it's there. It's your Jeep though, good luck on whatever you go with. Don't forget to budget for the SYE to go with that suspension lift.

BL are Utility also lady. that gives you more roon to flex (full extent of the shocks) and not run the Fenders. I have that problem 2" suspension and when at full flex with both Sway-bars removed I rub like a freak at full flex. I have been contemplating a 2" body but there is SOOOOOO much that 30+ have to have done when a BL is added. These were the words for a Pro installer. 02 and earlier take about 2 hours, 03+ take about 4 with a few mods.

I have a mechanic cousin that has his own shop with tons of handy dandy tools and stuff. It makes the work take less time but I know what you mean.

So, pro/con's on these options seem so close. BL cheaper? I'm going to look it up. Is raising the gas tank hard?

Junkpile I wasn't busting on your jeep. I didn't mean that statement to read like that really.

Still considering. Thanks to everyone.

Yeah.....suuuuure you didn't

Nah, I'm just kidding! I didn't take it that way, I was just pointing out that I have a BL because of it's utility. I only plan on running the 36s, maybe 38s, on this Jeep. I didn't want to go the flat spring SOA route to achieve the needed height, and I can come up with plenty of uses for the extra drivetrain clearance with the BL. A 4"SUA and a BL gets me the height I want and with my type of wheeling, less downsides. The suspension lift IS the better way to go, but a sensible BL is NOT a bad thing.
