idle problems

I have an 89 wrangler with a remanufactured 258 with less than 5000 miles on it and will stall the more I drive it. Since the problem started I have replaced the coil, distributor cap, rotor, plugs, wires, vacume lines, rebuilt the holly carb (on it when I got it), and even replaced the exhaust manifold with a header. I am at a loss and really don't trust to many shops to do the right thing or even know much about a jeep in the first place. after about 1000 RPM it runs pretty darn good, but at idle I can once in a while smell gass and it will just shut off. I have a 727 auto in it so running at idle, in gear is a must. Any ideas so I don't have to take it to a tech that may or may not know what is wrong.
Thanks,
Danny from Orlando

Re: RE: Dana 35 diff.cover

Buy or borrow a Holley book from the library and get to know your carb. I'd suspect your problem is there. Holleys are easy to rebuild and easy to tune.....if you know Holleys.

A TF727? Cool. What Tcase are you running? Got any front Dshaft clearance problems?
