This (and Every) Weekend
We're headed to the San Juan mountains of Colorado for a vacation in the last week of September.
There are some really great trails in that area. Engineer Pass, Cinamon Pass, Hurricane Pass, Black Bear Pass, Ophir Pass, Poughkeepsie Gulch, California Gulch and a whole bunch of others.
In addition to those, we are doing a new trail (for us) near Creede, CO. It's called Wheeler Geologic Area. It was once a National Monument, but it is remote and lost that status in the '50s. It is said that if you take the hiking trail rather than the 4WD trail, you get to the monument faster. The trail is an out and back that takes 8 hours of driving time and does not include break times and sight seeing. 14 miles worth.
Anyone here ever ride that trail? What did you think about it? Is the geologic beauty as great as it sounds that it is?
