my winter build is finally done. im on 38's, with a 44 frotn and 60 rear. the 60 is 35 spline adn the 44 will be all alloy shafts and joints in about a month, right now the inners are spicer. its got 5.13 gears with hummer dual beadlocks, soon to have a e350 master cylinder that will lock up the 38s and it has lock rites front and rear. the rear will get swapped for a spool in about a year.

Does your tierod clear the springs suffeciently without using tall steering arms?

Looks great, I'm currently sourcing all the parts for the highsteer and then my D44's will go in. Got an extra PS knuckle?

ive got an inch or maybe less between my tie rod and my springs. the knuckles are chevys with parts mikes parts arms, theyre an inch thick. i just took a tie rod froma GM one ton truck, got it shortened a couple inches and flipped it so my drag link goes to where the steering stabilizer used to, it worked out perfectly.

i sure dont have an extra passenger knuckle though, i scored those of a guy on pirate (71rckcrzyryan or something like that, he owns twisted custom fab i think) with the arms for 175, they had new balljoints and the passenger knuckle was a parts mikes parts new casting, thats why in the pic it doesnt have the stock steering arm

What did you do with the magnesium run flats in the Hummer wheels. A lot of people get the PVC rings for those wheels or cut down the rund flats. If you run the air pressure low enough for the tire to make occassional contact with the run flat, it can cause holes in the tire. I saw this happen twice to a brand new set of 39.5" Boggers.

i cut them down to around 3/4 inch above the ring itself, it was as low as i could get. i tried to keep them around the height of the bolt flange

That should do it.
Maybe one day I will get off my arse and get some pics of my Fall/Winter project. It's done except for the paint work on the frame/tubing and the getting the exhaust run. You guys are gonna love it. Can you say 42 IROKS?
BTW...you're Jeep gets my vote for worst (or best) beat trail rig. I 'm diggin the dents.

thanks, i got the doors back on it the other day, it took about an hour and a half, a high lift jack, a 4 lb hammer, and my winch to get the doors to line up good enough to close. the driver door weather stripping doesnt even touch the body where the door slam is though, theres all sorts of stories for all the rock rash, im redoing the cage soon too so there will surely be a lot more dents after my cage is 100% roll over and drive away

No kidding. I made the mistake of adding up the latest round of modfication expenses. Whoo!! I could have bought a small central American village.

you want a build tally? ok here goes, im gonna twitch for a week after im done typing this

keep in mind that i did a lot of the parts collecting over a years time so i didnt just drop 4500 all at once, my summer wages and my graduation money and money from working over winter break all went into this, and thank god i can set up gears cuz that would have been another 700+, also ive got great friends that helped me with parts like yokes and such from their old crap

Ouch on the front axle. Do you wish you had just bought a Ford 60 and a locker and been Done with it? Ford 60's go for about $900 to $1000 around here.

yea i wish i had been able to find a 78-79 ford 60, but then it would have needed gears and a locker and 35 spline outers and drive pucks and i would be at the same price, so i figure when i sell it off ill be able to recoup it, seeing as this axle is from a 79 it will bolt in under a yj, it has cromo shafts and 5.13s and a locker. it shouldnt be a big deal to the 60 down the line.

I still have you beat on the cost of my winter project. New 5.3L engine, Chevy 400 build, new cross member, rear tubed frame, 4-link rear, chromoly heims, high steer, Sway a Way air shocks, new frame, flat skid cross member, dual 12" fans, harness, ECM, 42 Iroks...basically a new Jeep except for the tub, axles and transfer case.

my buddy sold his wifes four runner to finace his cj 5, this is what it turned out as, chevy 350, turbo 350, one tons, 42's, four link rear twin sticked 300 with lomax gears, arb up front, hummer beadlocks which he recentered and did the rock rings on, and he just bought hydraulic steering and is about to three link the front. well heres a pic

What it basically comes down to it is....you have this really nice jeep now... and cant afford the gas to drive it 'TO' any place to wheel it LOL!

yes that is why i just got a truck to tow it with, and for a smokin deal i might add.

$500 for a 1988 f250 crew cab 8 ft bed with tow hitch, camper, 4yr old engine and other goodies.
