Is there any difference in [ series 3 Dana 44 open differentials ] removed from different makes of vehicles, or front or rear end ? Thanks for any information,
Ron

the jk 44' are not the same as the ones before it. the ring gears are are larger, as is the pinion and bearings. it is retro compatable with a 300$ bearing kit.

IIRC the series number has to do with what ratios will work with the carrier. 44 is a 44 pretty much with the exception of the JK and 44HD which sometimes has c-clips.

Don't forget there is high and low pinion D44s as well

Yes there are, but that only relates to the rotation cut on the gears, either standard cut for LP and reverse cut for HP, all other components are the same and interchangable (san exceptions)

Ford is the only mass produced, factory installed HP D44 that I can think of off the top of my head. FJS, Chevy, IH fronts are all low pinion.
