Today I got the entire SYE done... much much easier than i expected it to be. I just can't wait to get the lift goin so i can get a rear driveshaft now....

one bit of bad news.... my framerail... above my passenger rear axle.... cracked about 3/4 way up.... so i felt the inside to see if it was cracked as well... HAHA... no crack... but a fist sized hole... so it looks like i'll be getting some 2x4 steel to replace part of the frame now.... i hope it works

I had a crack just like that. Weld it back up and put 3/8 plate over the crack. Have fun with your new project!

Another Stupid Jeep Owner

I wouldn't use 3/8 plate. It will be much stiffer than the frame itself and will be more likely to crack around the welds. When the frame flexes, the thick plate won't and a great stress will be placed on the attaching points. I like to use an extra long piece of 3/16" plate. You want it as long as possible so it will flex easier. Instead of cutting the plate square with straight ends, make the ends bullet shaped or rounded to keep from having one straight weld that will break easier.

SYE is running great... i live 2 blocks from work... so i just ease it back and forth in wrong wheel drive

If you remember Snitty, that's where I had rust on mine. I think my brother-in-law used 3/16 now that Junkpile mentioned it. Probably just because it's what he had lying around. It held up great - even with the welding job with a wounded hand (torn ligament).

the plow is now off the jeep.. i took it off about a month ago... i'm soon going to look for some steel to start shaping it
