I'm new to this forum, but this looks like where I should post this problem to maybe get some help. I've a 1987 six cylinder manual Cherokee Laredo that is used exclusively off road as a hunting vehicle. Lately, when I start it, the engine idle races with the tach showing it going past red line. If I tap the accelerator to the floor rapidly, the idle will drop to normal, but will race again if I attempt to accelerate in gear. I've cleaned the carburetor throat and replaced the idle control sensor but no change. Can anyone give me some suggestions to solve this problem?

You have a major vacuum leak.
Look at the base of the carb.
Carb ports on bottom end.
Any port in the intake and intake runners ti cylinder heads.
Spark plugs and any cracked vac line.
