Support beam

I recentley removed the two front fender support rods from my Jeep because they had rusted threw completly. I have tried to find them everywhere and can not. Does anyone know where to find them or what the exact name is and if they are a crucial support that must be required. The bar goes from the fender top straight down into the body at a 45 degree angel. Thanks.

Not sure what they're actually called, probably something silly like "fender support rods". I guess it depends on what you do with your Jeep, but their main function is to keep the fender from bending downward and separating from the body if you hit something, or if some idiot decides to use your fender as a chair. You could try calling the stealership, but you'd pay out the yingyang for it there. Next best thing is the local salvage yard, though around here there just aren't many Jeeps in salvage yards. Finally, you could just make one yourself. Get a piece of angle iron from Lowe's or some other similar place, put an appropriate bend in the end, drill a couple of holes and bolt it in. If there are brackets to hold it in place, you may be able to reuse them without bending the end of the angle iron, or you may be able to find something at the previously mentioned angle-iron-store that would work as a bracket.

Half the fun of working on a Jeep is getting creative when you can't find the exact part you're looking for.

Thank you and you are right its about taking care of the Jeep putting in your own personal touch that is something that I (no mechanical knowledge) am still worried about but thats how I will learn.

I'm finishing up with putting my YJ back together after an extensive overhaul. There were many times that creativity was used when a replacement part was out of the question (either due to cost, availability, not wanting to search salvage yards, or some other reason). Put on your thinking cap, you'll get an answer that works for you and your situation. Like always, jeepz.com is here to help.... they've helped me.

That's what it's all about. I had only done very light mechanic work prior to owning my Jeep; alternators, starters, batteries, etc. Since I got it, I've amazed myself at the things I have done, and feel a great sense of satisfaction at having done them myself. Yes, it's a great way to learn, and yes, it is sometimes a little worrisome, but that adrenalin rush is worth it! ;)

:agree:

I find that pride in ownership increases when you do the work yourself. It's a Jeep.... personalize it! 8)
