Tire question

As some of you may recall, I have an '06 TJ that has a 2" RE economy suspension lift (i.e. spring spacers). I understand 31" tires would be ideal, but would 32" tires fit on stock wheels?? How much if any rubbing would I experience? Would it be a bad idea? I just ask because I've been looking for a good deal on some M/T's and it appears for some reason that it's easier to find good deals on 32s than it is on 31s...I guess 31's are a more popular size or something. Anyway, just toying with the idea of 32's and thought I'd run it by the experts. Thanks in advance!

Well, I have NO lift and 31s with no issues so I would guess that you'd have no problem at all with a 2" lift and 32s. Just my feeling on it but you may want to wait for the experts to chime in.

Ok, I'm going to see if I can't strike a deal for these 32's then. Thanks for the info, and I'll let you guys know if it works out.

why?

go straight to 33's. They will fit no problem with a 2" Budget Lift, If rubbing on control arms is an issue, get wheel spacers, or some cheap used steel rims with 3.5" backspacing..

Most 32" tires measure only 31" anyways so your paying a little more for the same thing.

FYI, here is a member of my club with a TJ that has 35's on a stock suspension, with the exceptiog of rear lower control arms and a little fender trimming.

And most 33's measure 32, and most 31's measure 30. It really isn't about the exact measurement anymore, it's just a nominal value. Kind of like the 2x4 is really 1.5x3.5.

A little fender trimming?? He has those tubular rock crawler front fenders in the front (or at least that's what it looks like). No way they'd fit without that. Nice Jeep though. And the reason I'm going with 32's right now is that I already have a bid in on them, plus I don't want any rubbing issues when I'm wheeling (if Paragon ever opens back up :( ).

PAP is open, just in a different venue, and no groups under ten with out a guide.

as for the fenders on that jeep, stock, just "flat fendered" the rear is trimmed Poison spyder corners with the tub trimmed to match. I forgot to add, those are stock springs, but they are rubi springs, so it is like .5" of lift..

In my experience, 33's on a stock TJ with Stock rims will rub on the controls only if you extend the bump stops. all the flex in the world won't help if your hi-centered.

Corrupt, I agree 100% there are still some manufacturers that produce what they say, but most often measure smaller. i am still trying to figure out why 36" byply iroks measure 37" and radial 36" iroks measure 35.75" and cost $30 more per tire....

I put a two inch budget life on my fiance's jeep with 31 inch tires. I also have the crager soft 8 wheels 15x7 with 4 inch backspacing. They don't rub at all. Could I fit 33 inch tires under there with no rubbing? We don't use hers off road. Hers is the street driver. She gets to tear mine up instead of hers.

They usually rub the lower control arms at full lock in the front, nothing to worry about.

In the rear, you have to watch for rubbage between the tire and spring bucket when the axle articulates.

Yea... My 38" bias TSL's measured about 37.5 un-mounted, and about 36.25 on my Jeep at 15 pounds, probably about 36 at 10 pounds.

No, Paragon is closed. They got kicked off of the land at the new location at the campground. Apparently the owner who was allowing Kyle to use the land was in some government program where he recieved a tax break on the property, but in return he agreed not to develop the land. Apparently someone somewhere decided that Paragon's use of the land violated this condition, so PAP is once again closed. For more info see the forums at Paragon's website.

Thanks. I did not know that, there are a number of offroad parks opening up in NH and Maine that about 4 hours closer to me and the terrain is toted to be like Pebbles and Bambam diffculty and harder, so thats where I will go play.

Corrupt, your 38's only measure 36" at 10 psi... ouch.

My Q's at 6 psi still measure 35.25" I set over 36" at 25-30 psi.
To add, the tires have at best 600 miles on them, so they are fairly new.

Best tire I have had yet! and I have had a bunch of different tires, it also has a lot to do with where you wheel as well. I doubt Q's would be worth dik out in moab as compared to lets say a M/Tr or a Nitto Grappler. But for the north east, best!

Update - I just won an auction on eBay - got a set of 4 32/11.5/15 BFG Mud Terrains that the owner claims are only 3 weeks old and have less than 1k miles on them for $355. Seems like a good deal to me. I'm picking them up (and paying in person) so I won't get ripped off (hopefully).
