TJ lift question....opinions

a guy i work with is looking to get a lift for his TJ (believe its a 2001). someone in a jeep club suggested he go with a 2.5" suspension lift, and a 1" body lift. i'm not sure exactly what he wants to fit under there, maybe 31-33's. the thinking was that he could save himself money buy going smaller suspension lift and then getting a body lift. like i said i'm not sure what he wants for tires, but in my experience, since he's going to do it himself, a bigger suspension lift just makes more sense to me. opinions? maybe a 3-4.5" suspension lift instead.

I say..if ya don't have to do a body lift, don't. Do a body lift later on if you need a little more umf. Cound do a RE BB and body lift. or small 2.5 lift and 1" coil spacers or somthing..lots of combinations.

thats exactly what i was looking for, i just wanted to tell him someone else agrees. avoid a body lift at first, and then add if necessary. thanks LGR.

trust me here.. if you can avoid a body lift do so.. a good 4.5 RE will allow 33s just fine.. for a smoother ride talk him into a long arm kit

I'm doing a similar thing to what he is concidering, going to run a 2.5" lift, 1" body, 1" motor, tummer tucker, tube fenders, and 33" tires. For me it is advantageous because I can install it all myself, and due to the modular nature of the setup I can do it piece by piece over time, when I have the money and time. I'm not looking to run any trails over 3.5 anyway. The Jeep is my daily driver so long down times won't fly. I may spend slightly more over time on parts, but will save on labor, plus I can enjoy the progressive nature of the improvements.
