i went to a local tire store here that has been in operation since 1937.
the old guy there has a tire and wheel that are correct for my jeep.
he also has a side mount spare carrier.
it is a round plate with 3 lugs on a 2 inch tube that is connected to a rectangular plate that mounts to the body.
he wants $125 for the wheel/tire/tube/balance/mount
does this type of mount sound familiar?

and if anybody has pics of how these mounts are installed they would be greatly appreciated.

the spare tire mounted on the passenger side above and to the rear of the rear tire. there was also a small disk shaped bracket that kept the tire from rubbing the body

The side mounts that I've seen (and had) were all square boxy shaped things. The later ones (like 1970 and up) had a light and reflector in the center because they blocked the DOT required side light. - John
