U-Bolt Conversion - Dana 44

Has anyone done the cheap U-bolt/yoke conversion? You can buy a complete replacement U-bolt style yoke for $80 or I've heard of people just drilling out the stock yoke and sliding the u-bolt style strap through it. What I've read so far is that it works on 30's and 35's, but not on the 44. A few people said it didn't work and some did.

For offroad use I have drilled the old ones (AFTER finding the correct Ubolts to fit!) You need to undercut the backside for the nuts to fit and turn.
