Weber 38 or holley truck avenger?

Ok, since we are weber bashing.

Weber makes a great carb if its a geramn or italian made weber. The spanish ones are ok. Holleys are known for leaky fuel bowls. I, myself, would get a weber 38. I have a weber 34 and feel its to small for the 4.2 because I ran a 32/36 on my 1.8 litre bmw and when floored, the 34 and 32/36 both only open to 68mm diameter total.

I think if you run a 470cfm carb on this engine, you better know how to get the right jets and be able to read plugs because out of the box, that is cfm for a 5.0 v8

where do you live? here, in south south texas (right near mexico at hte bottom tip of texas) i can run a carb without adjusting it at all. i live at sea level and the temps are within a certain range, almost daily all year round. if you live where its mountainous or you have seasons, you are probably going to have to adjust it every once in a while.

webers are very easy to tune, but, if your a carb person, they all are so it might just be you have to pick one and learn how to do it.

Chicago but I'm from Houston

I really just want something I can depend on and not have to readjust every 28 seconds

get a first gen TBI from a junk yard and run a 4.3 map on it...

oh thats right, carb... ya no way around it, at best you will have to tune in the spring and autumn due to temp changes. I was a little confused if you and the jeep were in texas or ill.

he is up north. i was just asking to show why things would have to work.

there is really no way around adjusting a carb. any aftermarket one will require adjustments. if you can find a factory model from something, they usually run longer with no work. try that motorcraft one from the guy on ebay that everyone has had great experience with. someone will link to him or give you his store name. i imagine, you will have the best luck with that over all the others since the auto manufacturers needed stuff to work with little adjustment versus an aftermarket manufacturer selling to home tuners.

I don't mind working on them. But the Carter I have now LITERALLY needs to be readjusted every day and I'm sick of it.

We are stuck in Chicago till October. :(

You bought this new?????

Yep, brand spank’n new from Clifford. With the shipping and such I dropped about 400 bones for nothing; ended up giving it to the guy I later sold the jeep to as a “give me”.

i would say the weber 38 or the motorcraft. i have a weber and have had webers for years on bmws. they are great and once you set them, you can forget them. (until a serious change in the air-temp/pressure, etc) i know how motorcraft are from owning fords and then what everyone says on here and they are good carbs also
