Windsheid wiper sloppy?

1997 TJ Wrangler Sport 4.0
I and the dealer ASSUME that the slop is from a broken/worn out bushing/gromet, its the passenger wiper and has about an inch or so of freeplay/sloppy movement wiper works fine just sloppy. No play on the actual linkage arms just at the base of the spline shaft somewhere in the cowl. Dealer said they only sell the WHOLE linkage kit at 380.00!!!

I found a package of plastic wiper bushings at NAPA, before I tear in to the cowl does anyone out there know of a diagram or something that can give me some insight before I ASSUME I have the right part. The bushings I have look like a mix between a wirenut and a small bottle cap.
I will make something work before I pay 380.00!
Anyone input would be appreciated......

Per Servive Manual

WIPER LINKAGE AND PIVOTS

The wiper linkage and pivot module is fastened with screws to the cowl plenum panel beneath the cowl plenum cover/grille panel. The wiper motor is fastened with screws to the center of the linkage and pivot module bracket. The wiper pivots are fastened to the ends of the module bracket.
The driver side wiper pivot crank arm and the wiper motor crank arm each have ball studs on their ends. The passenger side crank arm has two ball studs. A drive link connects from the motor crank arm ball stud to one ball stud on the passenger side pivot crank arm. A connecting link connects from the other ball stud on the passenger side pivot crank arm to the driver side pivot crank arm ball stud.
Both the drive link and the connector link has a plastic socket-type bushing on each end. The socket-type bushings each are snap-fit over their respective ball studs.
The wiper linkage, pivots, bushings, motor crank arm, and mounting bracket are only serviced as a complete unit. If any part of this assembly is faulty, the entire unit must be replaced. The wiper motor is serviced separately.

In your diagram info: "The wiper pivots are fastened to the ends of the module bracket." Fastened what they should say is "pressed in to" but fastened will do, and yes you must buy the assembly to get those parts.
:shades: Soooo.... I re-fastened them together with a mig welder and works as good as new!!!
1 minute asking a question in the forum, 5 minutes to weld it, and I saved $380.00...... Thanks again Steel for the diagram,

Good job fixing the dumb design. My 05 lost one of the rubber boots on the pivot when it was less than two years old. The boot split off the pivot and fell into the cowl. Of course, there is no easy way to put a new boot on (cut and weld) . I assume that the joint will fail sooner than later even though I packed it with marine grease. Might be fun to convert it over to "top mounted" independent wipers (maybe even vacuum :lol: ). -John
