Popping noise when shifting

I have a 97 Tj with a 4cyl and standard transmission. Just recently something started popping every time I shift gears. It happens right as I let off of the clutch and if there is any load the pop sounds like a small grind. I cannot duplicate this noise in 4low. Does this sound like a transfer case problem to everyone else? I want to be 100% certain before I spend the money I do not have. Does anyone have one real cheap? Thanks

Like it ever stops.

Do you know what type of fluid is in the transmission? If you don't know, or it's the factory recommended GL5, I recommend changing it out asap. The GL5 is corrosive to the brass synchronizers in the AX5 (what you have) and AX15 transmissions.

Buck up for some Redline MT90, it's a full synthetic gear oil that's easy on the synchros. You'll get smooth shifting in even the coldest of weather and the transmission will last a LOT longer. It's about $10qt. at www.summitracing.com .
