My 87 yj is running like crap again. It did this once before and just cleared up on its own. I have no vacuum leaks, half tank of good gas, good fuel filter, was tuned up 3 months ago. If it idles it will be at 500 rpm and sound rough. Any ideas??

Oh and it started happening after a 45 min ride on the highway.

could be that you need a new distributor, my friends ford f150 was doing that.He eventually changed the distributor and that fixed the problem.

only one way to find out, pop the top on the carb and pull them out. seems like it would be a better possibility since it happened after a long drive. maybe a part of the fuel hose came off and got into the carb or something

Have you checked the spark plugs to see if they are wet with gas or covered in oil. fouled out plugs is a possibility. I am fouling out plugs in my jeep from time to time because of a screwed up carb and I know when it happens because it starts running like crap.

Its probably a Carter. Thats what is on my 88. I had mine rebuilt, and it runs great now.
