smoking from my 4.2

Hi I have a 87 wrangler with a 4.2 engine. I have checked compresson shows to be around 147 in each cylinder but it still smokes. Any one have an ideal

maybe check air filter or fuel filter. what colour is the smoke? Blue,black,white/grey??

Its white I kinda thought it was valve stems or seals not sure thought after I drive it for like 10 miles it almost stops smoking

so basically it is only when the engine is cold? white smoke on cold engine is good indication of water/steam in the exhaust pipe. if it goes away after a few mins then i would think this is your trouble but i would still check your air filter. i not 100% sure wait for someone else to reply hope this helps

also if the white smoke stays it could be indication of head gasket leaking or cracked head. when the engine cools alittle mite leak. is your coolant level dropping any??

Im not loosing any water. It still smokes when engin is hot but thanks any way
