2000 Cherokee Classic trailer tail light

Purchased the vehicle used and there were wires already ran for trailer taillight wiring. I purchased a flat 4, but none of the lights work on the trailer. I checked at the plug with a meter, and the blinkers work for the meter, but what I assume to be the tail light post doesnt show up.

Do I need some sort of converter since the trailer only has one bulb per side and the Jeep has both a dedicated taillight/brake and a dedicated blinker per side?

Well, on the older cherokees the trailer harness wiring went through a series of relays (located behind the driver side trunk plastic panel) that served to combine the brake/Turn signals into one wire per side.

I don't know the wire colors for the 2000. Also, it IS possible the 2000 model doesn't have the relays and has a 5 wire harness design instead. If that's the case, let me know and I can draw up a scematic to show you how to add two relays to adapt it to work for your 4 wire harness on the trailer
