What's the cheapest way to mount my 31" spare on the XJ? (Dont say bungee cords to the stock roof rack!) :lol:

Cheapest? Duct tape would probably be cheaper than bungees.

surco rack was a bit over $200.00 w/ mounts & shipping. after that it was a few buck in nuts, washers, and threaded rod.

ive got the surco too, mines bungeed and locked on =), you can get a surco spare mount for like an extra $40

you could always put the tire bewtween the 2 rails and ratchet strap that. or even tied it real well, you may not have a problem.

Um....

There are two things that I would suggest.

1. You could get a longer bolt for the stock spare tire hanger inside the Jeep and mount the 31 on that. It may be a little crooked, but it holds tight.

2. I would use bungees INSIDE the Jeep cargo area using the stock tie downs. I did this for my 33" tire. Worked like a charm.

BOTH of these - no damage to roof!
