Strange 98 Cherokee Transmission Sound

Hey All,
I have been experiencing a strange sound when I am offroad. When I am in 4wd and only in drive (not R/N/P), I hear a vibration sound. I don't actually feel a vibration. It sounds like a whirring, or low squeal. My Jeep drives really well, in fact I feel no performance loss at all. When I am at a stop, in 4WD, and in Drive, I can hear it. When I place it in R/N/P, it goes away. When I drive uphill it appears to be louder. It also seems to only happen when I am in 4WD for a while. I tried duplicating it for a friend... I could hear it slightly, but he could not. When I am offroad for any length of time, it becomes noticably louder. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!
Jon

A buddy of mine had a similar problem with a 94' Cherokee, it would wine and even hop like crazy once it got hot when in 4 wheel drive, turned out to be the t-case, replaced it and it worked perfectly.
