i heard the best thing to do to a 4cyl jeep besides engine swap is to strip iteams for less weight. but what can b takin off that will effect my 92 yj?

Strip the carpet inside
Replace the mechanical fan clutch with an eletric fan
pull the rear seat and keep it in the garage until you need it.

How much weight do you save removing the carpet?

I'm not sure exactly how much difference it would make in a Jeep since at least on my TJ it's thin carpeting with no real insulation to speak of. On my old Mazda however, you would be surprised how much it weighed when I stripped the carpeting out (and all other interior trim/panels) for drag racing. The carpet and insulation alone was probably at least 40lbs in that car.

I only took mine out because it had rotted. The Jeep is now colder in the winter, hotter in the summer and noiser at all times. Well... all times when it is working.

Remember, I'm talking about carpet from an old Mazda sedan that had like 1/2" rubberized foam insulation underneath of it...I think the carpet in my TJ might weigh 5lbs all together ;).

That's kinda what I was thinking, I can save more weight by driving 13 miles and burning off a gallon of gas.
