Gears 6 and R in 6spd rubicon with T case lowering kit

Anyone else with a 4" lifted rubicon 6spd have problems getting shifter into 6 and R? The shifter bumps not only the decorative piece of the console but also the rubber boot under the console. I had to cut the floor to get into reverse and 6th. I have a big hole in the floor of my rubi now and it bothers me so much I've contemplated getting a lengthened CV drive shaft and removing the T case lowering kit. Anyone have any suggestions?

It's a typical problem with all Jeeps that run body lifts or tcase drops. When you change the position of the shifter you change where it ends up when you shift. You're better off in the long run getting a CV shaft. Most everyone I know has had to cut their console to get that problem fixed.

Corrupt, if my kit came with longer lower arms, do I need to get longer upper arms as well to make the angle of the drive shaft correct. Should I replace the front upper control arms as well, as it seems to me that that angle doesn't quite matter as much due to the length? Any opinions on a shaft: just get one made at the local welder or get something like a Tom Woods shaft?

By the way, do some of these posters get paid to hang around here, how do they have time to post so often? I really appreciate all the advice, just wonder who's on the other end of the line:)

I get paid ;)

Seriously though, I'd get a CV rear driveshaft which will require you getting a new rear output yoke on the transfer case. You'll also need adjustable upper control arms in the rear to point the pinion up at the transfer case output.

I don't know about your shifter, but I do know there's not a lot of profit being made around here

These guys don't get paid - we all just hang out because we like Jeeps and the people around here.

Why would you need a T-case drop on a runicon? They already have fixed yokes on the tcase. Don't they have have stock CV shafts in the front and rear?

IIRC when installing a 5.5" LA on a friends rubi, new drive shaft was needed since there was a length issue with the lift (we stretched it 3"). But I just can't recall if it was a rear CV shaft stock.

If not.. A cheap replacement would be to look for a front XJ shaft and shorten it for the rear of the tj. The only thing you might need is to convert the rear U-joint. I think the front xj is 1310 and the rear tj is 1330. Not positive on that.

The rear TC output is a fixed yoke but it is not a CV, basically a single cardan setup. The single cardan can't handle a constant steep angle, thus the need for the TC drop.

Using a used front shaft from a TJ or XJ is a good idea, but you'll still need a CV yoke or flange on the transfer case to mount the CV rear shaft.
