Puzzling engine symptoms on '91 4.0 manual YJ

Update- appreciate the replies, it's very comfortable being able to ask a question and have people that have gone through similar experiences answer! Took it to the dealer... yeah I know, succumbed to the "damn the costs, fix it" theory! After some research they said it was the double cardigan...

Puzzling engine symptoms on '91 4.0 manual YJ

YJ starts up and idles fine, at least to my "untrained" ears. It's had the "tap" sound that I have heard others describe, that mostly goes away as it warms up. What it's doing now: 1. 1st gear acceleration- great. 2. 2nd gear acceleration- good, but I can feel the beginnings of a miss. Around...

    Hardtop windows

Does anyone know of a manufacturer/ parts dealer who makes sliding windows for the side of the hardtop itself? I have a '91 YJ, and have looked for this online, but the only thing I have seen is of sliding windows for the doors. Don't know how hard of a modification it would be, but asking a...

    2.5 idles to fast

Just an FYI if it applies to your vehicle/ symptons- couldn't figure out why my 91 4.0 YJ would idle about 1300-1400 as I rolled to a stop, and then back down to normal idle within about 3 seconds consistently. Vacuum leaks were pointed out as a potential cause- couldn't find any. Changed every...

    Catalytic Converter 1991 YJ 4.0

Thank you. I haven't seen any extra lines that look like they've been capped, or should be attached to something, so that had me wondering.

    Catalytic Converter 1991 YJ 4.0

Have a small crack in the exhaust manifold and thought about putting some headers and a catback system on to "fix" it. Climbed under the Jeep to scope it out and noticed that the old owner had removed the Cat. Looks like they cut it out and welded a straight pipe in. A little consternation...

    Different kind of YJ

Just saw your story and pictures... looks cool. Tend to agree with you, having something a little different is a plus. That motor looks functional sitting in the engine bay! Nice job, call that a "one-off", right?

91 YJ driver side manual window regulator

Anybody have a lead on one of these? I'd like to buy OEM or NOS, but will go with a used one if it's in good shape. These things are hard to find!

possiable sieze!!!! help me and give advice

Sounds like professional help is needed to check the motor or you find another one to replace it. Please don't take offence, but you're not just kidding with people? on this would it be possiable to make it a v-6 and just get rid of that section or do i really need that combustion there to...

    Intermittent high idle

I figured changing a couple of things out (TPS/IAC) wasn't going to hurt anything; if they hadn't been changed before it had 137,000 on it and would need it sooner or later. It idles perfect once it drops down, no bucking or jumping. Think I'll put a new throttle cable on it just to say I did...

    Intermittent high idle

'91 YJ 4.0 5 speed- When coming to a stop and depressing the clutch, the engine will immediately idle at anywhere from 1200-1500 rpm. It'll hold that for a few seconds and drop down to normal idle. Sometimes it drops down sooner, sometimes a little later, but it always reverts to normal rpm...

    Pitman arm angle/ Track bar

Thanks for the link, had a good laugh at the very last comment by Corrupt, that was classic. I'm not into scary moments, so want to do this thing right. I have researched pitman arms online and they all appear to be the same drop as mine. I might even drop it down some to get a better angle...

    Pitman arm angle/ Track bar

Good morning- new 91 YJ owner and newbie to Jeepz. Would like to ask a question because I'm a little bit confused right now and potentially over-thinking this thing. Jeep has SOA 6" lift, seemed to be okay but looking closer has shown a few issues. It has a dropped Pitman arm, but the drag link...
